2nd Grade Music
Charlie Over the Ocean
Students in 3rd grade are beginning the year with a song and game. Using the iconic notation below, students discovered the melody and even made connections to traditional music notation. We will be using this notation as well as traditional music notation to discover how to play the melody on barred instruments.

Here We Go Willowbee
Here we go Willowbee, Willowbee, Willowbee,
Here we go Willowbee, all night long.
Step back Sally, walking down the alley,
Step back Sally, all night long
I looked around the corner, and what did I see?
I saw a great big man from Tennesee.
I bet you five dollars I could beat that man,
I bet you five dollars I could beat that man,
Move on down, move on down.

Miss White
Miss White had a fright,
In the middle of the night. Saw a ghost eating toast, Halfway up the lamp post. Miss Red went to bed, With a pumpkin on her head, Saw two bats, chase a cat, Right into her pointy hat. |
Miss Green on Halloween,
Went to supper with the queen. Saw a spider, in her cider, Oh dear me it’s now inside her. Miss Blue, yes it’s true, Threw snails in a witchy brew. Added stones, gave a groan, Stirred it with a finger bone. |

Music Literacy
2nd graders are beginning to learn how to read and identify through listening quarter and eight note rhythmic patterns this semester. For each quarter note we will say, "du" and for each pair of eighth notes we will say, "du-day." However, before reading these rhythms, students will hear, sing, chant, and move to these rhythms to give the rhythms context.
